Your GetCBT therapist will be highly qualified, experienced and accredited with the BABCP. This means they are trained to a high standard and are able to use and adapt 'gold standard', internationally accepted CBT and EMDR psychotherapy packages, rather than just a 'couple of techniques'.
GetCBT offers Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Third Wave CBT techniques such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) which can be used integratively or as treatments in their own right. We also offer Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Why CBT?
CBT is widely accepted as the leading psychological therapy for common mental health issues (NICE). And, many people want to try a psychological treatment before contemplating medication. It's no wonder that 72.7% of people received CBT therapy over other forms of therapy in 2021-2022 (NHS Digital, 2022).
CBT offers a short term therapy solution (usually runs from 6-20 sessions) and this makes it appealing because its benefits can be felt more quickly and last longer compared to other treatments.

Why EMDR?
EMDR is recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence as a treatment for trauma and PTSD. When it comes to treating trauma and PTSD, EMDR works just as well.
We offer this treatment because it really matters when people have a choice of therapeutic interventions. Unlike CBT which focuses on changing negative appraisals of traumatic experiences and maladaptive behaviours, EMDR focuses on processing traumatic events in combination with bilateral stimulation (such as tapping or eye movements) which essentially helps the brain to store the memory differently. EMDR doesn't require between session work and may not require for you to verbalise the event which can be really helpful when people struggle to talk about trauma openly.
